Woodworking
It started with the need for a napkin holder. My wife and I designed a wooden box to use some of our tools that had been gathering dust. However, we soon realized that our portable workbench was not going to cut it in terms of getting the project done. We found plans for a large workbench and got to work! With some added flair we were finally able to work on our napkin holder and get it finished. We have lots of new projects in the backlog, check back for our next big adventures!
The need for a larger workspace drove us to get plans for a large workbench in our garage.
Two very tired mechanical engineers after a day and a half of measuring, sawing, drilling and sanding.
Sketching out some different concepts and dimensions for the napkin holder. We originally entertained the idea of a swinging arm to help retain the napkins. We also were exploring different joints and joining methods.
With our design locked down we settled on a simpler stationary design with rabbet joints.
We were very happy with the final product! After lots of cuts, glue, stain and polyurethane we have our extra-large cloth napkin holder completed.
Our oversized (20" x 20") cloth napkins fit snugly in our new napkin holder!
