Bedside Phone Dock
In college I needed to have a phone dock for my bedside table. Inspired by the "Apple of Eden" from the video game "Assassin's Creed" I designed a dock that would fit my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3). It was designed to be lightweight, cheap, and stable.
I designed the dock in SolidWorks and used a laser cutter to shape quarter-inch acrylic. The final product turned out nicely, but I learned a lot about tolerances, especially with laser cutting. The plastic cuts were wider than normal, due to the poor tolerance of the laser cutter. The result was a loose fit, but still functional and held my phone for the rest of the year.
